This year's youth match was held on Saturday, 19th June at Puddledock Farm Fisheries. Fishing was from 9am to 4pm with 13 junior members, just 4 less than last year, taking part. The morning started with the juniors drawing their pegs as well as receiving their gifts of an unhooking mat and landing net. These prizes were awarded from the proceeds raised from the auction of fishing tackle belonging to KPAC stalewort, Jon Butler. Sadly, Jon passed away a few years ago and the club has always wanted to use this money to good effect and providing the clubs own junior members with some quality tackle was deemed to be the most fitting solution.
As always, bait was handed out to all anglers before the start and with their new equipment eager to be used, the whistle blew for the start of the match at 9am. A slow start to begin with and only a handful of fish being landed during the first period although Ryan Barry landed a couple that would certainly stand him in good stead for the rest of the match. After a few cloudy spells and a brief hour stop for lunch, everyone began fishing again at 1pm for the final 3 hours where newcomer Ellie Winston managed to hook into several decent fish, putting her in touch with the leader. While most of the participants were going after the carp, Tayci Arnold decided a "catch anything and everything" approach was the way to go and in the end this won her a prize for landing the most number of species, including roach, rudd, skimmers, bream, carp etc.
Damon Maskell tried to keep in touch with the leaders and landed some beautiful carp during the mid-way stage but his afternoon session proved to be a little too quiet for his liking.
As the day wore on, a few noteable fish were lost which could have made all the difference but it was to be Ryan's day with a creditable 18lb in the net.
Similar to Jack Worton in 2007 where at 10 years of age he was the youngest angler on the day, this time around it was the turn of Ellie Winston. At the age of 8, she managed to turn in a great performance landing 12lb 8oz and coming a creditable 5th during her first ever match.
Last year we asked the question as to whether or not we'd have another good day of sunshine and fishing and although there were a few overcast and windy moments during the match, we weren't disappointed this time around. Everyone got on with the job in hand and had a great time again with excellent behaviour from all concerned who were a credit to the club.

KPAC would also like to thank DECATHLON of Lakeside, Bowlers Angling and Robertson's Tackle for their kind donations of bait and prizes which have all been put to excellent use.

Overall, 95lb of fish was landed, just a slight downturn on last years figure of 108lb so the only thing to do is do it all again next year!
At the 4pm whistle, a weigh-in took place to determine the overall placings and these were as follows:

1st Ryan Barry - 18lb 13oz
2nd Damon Maskell - 15lb 12oz
3rd Warren Hampshire - 13lb

Prizes awarded this year: Ryan won a Match Seat, Damon collected a 11m margin carp pole and Warren bagged a 5 piece luggage set. Prizes and medals will be awarded at the presentation evening and we hope to see you all there.
