This year's youth match was held on Saturday, 13th June at Puddledock Farm Fisheries. Fishing was from 9am to 4pm with 17 junior members, 2 more than last year, taking part. As always, the committee members were on hand to offer advice throughout the day while parents, guardians and friends lazed around and enjoyed the sunshine. The morning started well for Jack Elliot with a couple of fish immediately after the first whistle and this spurred everyone else on to catch something as during the short 3 hours before lunch, no-one had failed to catch something. Carp, Roach, Bream and few goldfish were order of the day and Ryan Barry soon started to land some sizeable carp and managed to avoid the smaller silver fish probably due to the fact he was using whole lobworms instead of maggots. The feeder method proved popular for most juniors on the day and having stopped for an hours lunch, the whistle blew for the second session which was to last a further 3 hours up until 4pm. During this time the fish were being landed at a huge rate and those less experienced among the participants should be very proud of putting in an excellent effort throughout the day. The crisps and coke were consumed more than they should have (mainly by Kerry Emmins) and while some anglers decided to top up their tans, some of the parents chose to kick back and rest their eyes from a seriously busy morning! As the afternoon wore on, Ryan continued to reel in the carp and at the other end of the lake in swim 17, Tayci Arnold put in a brave effort in trying to get into the top 3 and hopefully beating her brothers 3rd spot from last year although she deserved a prize for putting up with her dad and Gary Norfolk for 6 hours! Alex Hood put in a great performance in coming 4th, narrowly missing out on 3rd spot by just a little over a pound. All juniors deserve a mention but with limited space on the page, it's enough to say they were a credit to themselves and the club.
Just like last year, congratulations go to everyone who turned up and took part, especially to those who fished a competition for the first time. Whether it was one fish or twenty one fish, we all had a great time so let's hope we see more of you during the clubs remaining matches this season. It would be good to have you along. Thanks also to the parents who took time to assist their youngsters and generally helped out throughout the session. Two years on the trot we've enjoyed beautiful sunshine so I guess to expect a 3rd year is highly unlikely. Let's wait and see.

KPAC would also like to thank DECATHLON of Lakeside and Ockendon Bait & Tackle for their generous donations of gifts for use as prizes at both this event and at the presentation evening.

Overall, 108lb 4oz of fish was landed. An increase of a touch under 22lb on last year. At the 4pm whistle, a weigh-in took place to determine the overall placings and these were as follows:

1st Ryan Barry - 31lb 4oz
2nd Jack Elliot- 18lb 2oz
3rd Tayci Arnold - 9lb 5oz

Ryan won a £40 Decathlon voucher, Jack won £30 and Tayci picked up a £20 voucher. The remaining 14 participants each received Decathlon vouchers to the value of £10. Prizes and medals will be awarded next week at the presentation evening. We hope to see you all there.
