This year's Junior Angler Away match
was held on 18th June at Puddledock Farm Fisheries. Fishing was
from 9am to 4pm with 12 junior members of K.P.A.C. taking part,
just a slight drop in numbers from 15 of last year. The weather
wasn't on our side from the start but everyone remained in good
spirits once they had all received their free gifts for the session.
These amounted to "bait waiters" along with 2 baitboxes,
a tub of hi leakage soft pellets, maggots, sweetcorn and pellets,
ideal for Puddledock waters. Pegs were drawn in the same manner
as for the Adult matches, drawn from the peg bag to ensure complete
fairness but with only 12 participants on the "Road Lake"
it was an open match from the off. The morning started a little
slowly with the usual
small skimmers and a few baby carp being taken. Feeder and float
fishing was order of the day and as the hours past, some fine looking
fish were being landed. With Ellie's fine start to the competition
in the first leg, she was definitely the one to beat!
The weather played a big part all day long but with umbrella's at
the ready, it was only the adults who seemed to be getting wet.
As the afternoon flew by it proved to be a difficult contest. The
Doran brothers were putting up a good fight and having their own
individual match which was always going to be close up until the
very end. It was Damon Maskell and Jamie Martin whose nets were
rapidly filling up and sure enough, we had real contest on our hands.
Fortunately for Ellie who had amassed enough points in the 1st leg
and with an impressive 20lb haul in the 2nd leg, she was just that
little bit better on the day and like many others, for a novice
to the sport it was a great achievement. As
the match came to a close, everyone
had thoroughly enjoyed themselves and once again, full credit to
them as their behaviour and enthusiasm throughout was quite impressive.
Congratulations go to everyone who turned up and took part, especially
to those who fished a competition for the first time. Thanks also
to the parents who took time to assist their youngsters and generally
helped out throughout the day and if you can do anything about the
weather next time, it would be much appreciated!
KPAC would also like
to thank Robertson of Dagenham, DECATHLON and OCKENDON BAIT &
TACKLE for their generous donations of Prize Gifts.
So, overall, approx 78lb of
fish was landed between 11 junior anglers. An impressive achievement.
At the 4pm whistle, a weigh-in took place to determine the overall
placings and these were as follows:
1st Ellie Winston
- 20lb 4oz
2nd Damon Maskell - 16lb 2oz
3rd Jamie Martin - 11lb 5oz
Ellie won a margin pole along with her 2011 League trophy, Connor
won a matching pair of float and feeder rods with a pair of reels
while Aarron won a boxed set of digital alarms.
