This years Inter-Committee match takes place as usual over two legs. The first leg was fished at home on the Kennington Park fishery on Sunday 3rd July. The day started well with KPAC drawing the Even Pegs and with them evenly distributed around the lake, spirits were high of working towards retaining the trophy. With the weather looking like a scorcher, there was no reason KPAC shouldn't turn in a good performance and with a revitalised team turning up on the day, we were ready for the off. Dan's whistle blew on the stroke of 9am and all eyes were on the "professionals" among the team to do their thing. After an hour or so, it was quite obvious the thing wasn't happening and the non-professionals were once again called upon to rack up the points for the team. At this stage of the game last year, the Winstons had amassed 32lb of fish between them but today was to be nothing like last year where a sorrowful, no, pitiful 12oz was the sum total of their efforts. Step up to the plate Graham Arnold and Trevor "wrinkly" Lacey. A good show from them throughout the morning ensured some points were on the board which is what can't be said for Greg Hampshire, thanks Greg ! Everyone tried a variety of methods but nothing seemed to be working. Even the visitors were having problems and it really was anyone's game, hoping for that one elusive big 'un to finish the game off. Audrey Worton had a lovely bream of just over 1.5lb but it proved too slippery for her marigolds and needed to seek assistance from the away team to hold it steady while gently removing the hook. Bernie, Darren and Gary H turned in a good performance considering the conditions and on another day would have had nets of double figures. Today wasn't to be one of those days. 2pm couldn't come quick enough for some of the team. Dan resorted to having a hissy fit when he was snapped up in peg 28, stomping around and threatening to throw his rod in the lake was very professional of him, but was good to watch ! So, KPAC finished the 1st leg with 131 points, only three points behind last years 1st leg total which, if you remember, we went on to win with a tremendous performance in the 2nd leg. Aveley go into the next leg with 164 points, 33 points in front and while we were only 19 points behind last year, we are all sure we can pull this one out of the bag and do the same in a few weeks time.

Report on the 2nd leg to follow shortly.......
